It’s always great for music lovers when new bands come onto the scene. New band on the block Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are favorites to take home a few trophies at the 2013 American Music Awards. Their single “Thrift Shop” is nominated for Single of the Year. The band is nominated for five other awards too, including Artist of the Year, New Artist of the Year, Favorite Band, Duo or Group in Pop/Rock, Favorite Artist in Rap/Hip-Hop and Favorite Album in Rap/Hip-Hop.
The sledding won’t be easy for the “Thrift Shop” newbies. Heavyweight, veteran artists Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars and Rihanna are also nominated for the Artist of the Year award. Timberlake and Swift have five nominations each. Jay Z is also nominated in each of the Rap categories, so nothing is certain for Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, except that their debut album “The Heist” went platinum. That means a lot since these awards are awarded based on album sales, radio play, social networking activity and video plays. The fans vote by supporting their favorite artists.
Florida Georgia Line, Robin Thicke and Rihanna are nominated in four categories. Imagine Dragons and Bruno Mars have three nominations apiece. Two other songs nominated for Single of the Year are Robin Thicke’s provocative “Blurred Lines” and Florida Georgia Line and Nelly’s version of “Cruise.”
The Favorite Female Artist in Pop/Rock category should be a tight battle. Between Rihanna, Swift or Pink, anybody could win, but who will it be? Timberlake, Mars and Thicke are duking it out for Favorite Male Artist in Pop/Rock. Once again, it’s anybody’s guess who’s going to be the last man standing. Lat year, Justin Bieber won three awards, including Artist of the Year.
Nineteen acts will perform at the AMAs this year, including Imagine Dragons and the ever-wondrous Miley Cyrus. Will she twerk her way to another performance worthy of water cooler gossip in offices across the country.
We have tickets to the live broadcast of the AMAs on Sunday, November 24, 2013, at the Nokia Theatre in the Live entertainment complex in Los Angeles, the land of movies, TV shows and mega-bands. Dick Clark’s award show is a favorite of fans and artists alike because it combines so many musical genres in one star-crammed evening. We also have passes to the after-party, where you can hear more great music and hang out with some of your favorite players. You won’t have to twerk or wear clothing from a thrift shop. All you need to do is buy your tickets and go have the time of your life. How you do that is up to you, but we’ve got the tickets to put you right in the middle of all the action.
