This will be the last year fans get to see Randy Jackson, Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj, according to Fox TV. It seems the network has grown weary of paying big money to diva judges only to see their ratings slip, slip, slipping away. In fact, Randy Jackson has announced his retirement after 12 seasons before he gets the axe. Jackson is the last of the old guard judges to exit and the first of the new group to volunteer to leave the show.
Perhaps if Minaj had not started a catfight with Carey the judges could hold their jobs, but more often than not, headlines regarding “American Idol” dealt with squabbles between the judges. This year’s well-publicized feud between the two female judges was just too much for Fox to endure.
So this year’s finale will be the last time to see this group of judges. Maybe the Minaj/Carey spat will go ballistic, but that’s doubtful. Jackson and Urban can keep those two separated. Now that Candice Glover and Kree Harrison have moved on to the finale, perhaps the show can fully concentrate on crowning this year’s winner.
