“To Nod or Not to Nod?” It’s the Perpetual Golden Globe® Question

Golden Globe Award

“To go or not to go?” might have been a better lead, but there’s no question or controversy there. Every TV fan or movie lover would sign a death pledge for a chance to buy Golden Globe® tickets. What’s more interesting, however, is the machinations behind the Golden Globes®. Like what divine body decides who gets nominated or who wins? These questions captivate fans and insiders year after year, and now we’ll explore what’s happening at the 2015 Golden Globes®. Exciting!

Let’s start with “The Judge.” If you haven’t seen this movie, don’t. Robert Downey Jr. is a lawyer who returns home to clear his father’s name. The critics didn’t love it, yet Robert Duvall managed to snag a best supporting actor nod. What’s up with that? Jake Gyllenhaal wrangled a best actor nod for “Nightcrawler,” but the film didn’t venture far in other categories. Sadly, “Gone Girl” is not gone. As if the Hollywood Foreign Press didn’t have any other choice, they gave “Gone Girl” four nominations, including best screenplay, best score, best director and best actress, although Ben Affleck’s character Nick takes over the film adaption.

Grammy® Nominees Slug It Out

Grammy Music's Biggest Night

Grammy Music’s Biggest Night

The nominees for Music’s Biggest Night will be slugging it out for the next couple of months, and it’s going to be a rough and tumble fight. The field is so packed with the talented, the beautiful and the prolific that there’s really no way to know who’s going to take home the prize in each category. Trying to pick the winners of the GRAMMYs® is about ten times as hard as trying to pick the winners of the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament. There are just too many deserving candidates, and you never know who will be blessed with the statuette.

The awards show will be broadcast live on February 8 on CBS. Tickets for the show and after parties are for sale on the VIP Concierge website, in case you want to be there for all the excitement. In the meantime, I’m going to try to pick some of the winners.

In the Record of the Year category, the five candidates are Iggy Azalea featuring Charlie XCX for “Fancy,” Sia for “Chandelier,” Sam Smith for “Stay With Me,” Taylor Swift for “Shake It Off” and newcomer Meghan Trainor for “All About That Bass.” For me, it’s all about Taylor Swift and Meghan Trainor. Swift is an awards show juggernaut with a record breaking new album, and Trainor has stepped out from the studio with her own cut, rather than supplying songs to established Nashville artists. Personally, I don’t think “Shake It Off” is as good a song as “All About That Bass,” but that doesn’t mean Swift won’t win. She’s revamped her style and is now mining the deep waters of pop music. However, I think Trainor is going to pull off the upset.

Celebrities Throw the Best Parties

Oscar Party

Oscar Party

No, you do not have to be an Academy Award® nominee to live the high life. You don’t even have to be in the audience of the awards show itself to mingle and cavort with the movers, shakers and money makers after the show is over. You only need to buy tickets to the biggest bunch of good times since bananas, and coincidentally, we have tickets for the Oscar® after parties right here at VIP Concierge. Well, it’s not actually coincidental. It’s our business to procure and proffer these tickets to our legion of devoted awards show fans. They come out of the woodwork like a mouse for a cookie because they know that in the land of prestigious parties, few can hold sway with the Oscars®.

The 2015 show is going off on Sunday, February 22. The best parties are annual affairs, so they have an entire year to plan for the occasion. This blog would be several years long if we tried to mention them all, so we’ll just give you the lowdown on four of the most amazing shindigs in a weekend filled with parties.

Here Come the Golden Globes!

Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards® are just around the corner, getting ready to kick off the awards season. Naturally, they’ll be at the lovely and luminous Beverly Hilton (or The Bev, as locals call it) in the heart of the Hills of Beverly (as the Clampetts called it) on January 11. The Golden Globes® set the tone for the awards shows that follow, and they’re always exciting and unpredictable. Ask any celebrity, and they’ll tell you that the Golden Globes® are their favorite of the awards shows because they are less formal and the after parties are awesome.

However, the purported reason for the Golden Globes® is to give out awards for excellence in film and television, and while it’s hard to predict the outcome, here at VIP Concierge, we are fearless, and we’re going to try. I programmed some of the nominees into my computer, left it out in the rain and rubbed shea butter on it. Then, based on a highly scientific algorithm (which ones aren’t?), I have extrapolated our projected winners. For every one that’s right, there will probably be two wrong.

How to Tell the Difference between an Award Show and a Real Award Show

Award Show

Award Show

As defined by the holy fount of information, Wikipedia, an award show is a ceremonial event where an award of any kind is given to a person. Now, that doesn’t mean that every award show is created equal. Like watches and cars, clothes and people, they come in all shapes and sizes, and some are simply better than others. You can’t just roll out a red carpet and say that it’s the area’s premier event. Well, it might be, depending on where you live. In case you were wondering, here’s a refresher outlining differences between award shows and real Hollywood-style award shows that you will only see in L.A.

Top 10 Signs an Award Show isn’t The Real Deal

10. The entertainer of the year nominees sound like landscapers-because they are.
9. The event is on the calendar next to “Nominate your neighbor for yard of the month.”
8. It’s happening at the theater where your niece saw VeggieTales “Beauty and the Beet.”
7. There’s an under-16 talent show category.
6. You know the host from elementary school.
5. Tractor Mart, Carlson’s Feed and The Pricey Country Store will be handing out swag.
4. The carpet is only spray painted red.
3. The musical guest played at your grandmother’s nursing home.
2. Tickets are only $15. Seniors get in free.
1. And finally, it’s not a real award show if it’s in Oklahoma!

Don’t Be Tardy – Get Your American Music Awards Tickets!

American Music Awards

American Music Awards

It’s 2014, and there’s a brave new American Music Awards waiting for you and your friends to enjoy. The show will be coming our way on November 23, 2014. Now, we all have something to look forward to besides Thanksgiving turkey. Everyone will be grateful that pumpkin pie and plump waistlines come after the first major music award show of the season.

So why are the American Music Awards more exciting than stuffing and cranberry sauce? The answer is pretty obvious. If you get your American Music Awards tickets, you’ll be surrounded by a crowd of celebrities instead of your relatives and a pile of soon-to-be leftovers. Comparing the AMAs and Thanksgiving is really pointless. What Thanksgiving dinner is accompanied by performances from every musical artist that you can think of?

MTV Video Music Awards

OMG, the VMAs! #RedCarpet, #CrazyParty, #OutAllNight, #ShutTheFrontDoor. Like wow! MTV’s Video Music Award tickets are already on sale. It’s a huge deal–even if we’ve been waiting for this annual music/music video fest for a year. There’s a lot to be stoked about. Specifically, that the 2014 VMAs are returning to the fabulous Left Coast. The only place they belong, if you ask us. Brooklyn who? Seriously, that place has some bad juju memories. It’s 11 months later, and we’re still trying to block out that Miley Cyrus performance. PTSD anyone? Someone please tell that girl to keep her tongue to herself.

Anywho, the VMAs aren’t just returning to their SoCal home, they are happening in the storied, steeped in music, saturated in stardom halls of the historic, yet newly renovated, Forum in lovely Inglewood, CA. Wherever that is. Just kidding. If you’re not sure, the GPS definitely knows how to get there, and you can’t miss the long line of stars that will be floating over the red carpet and streaming in the front door on August 24, 2014. This is the only super Sunday we’ve heard of. The nominees are awesome, and the performers already include first-time nominee 5 Seconds of Summer. That’s 5SOS to you. Plus, the ultra-platinum, king of abs Usher will be hitting the stage as will the fabulous, chart-topping Ariana Grande. That’s grande news for any music fan and another reason to stock up on award show tickets.

Here’s a list of some of this year’s nominees and who I’d pick if I could vote.
