“To Nod or Not to Nod?” It’s the Perpetual Golden Globe® Question

Golden Globe Award

Golden Globe Award

“To go or not to go?” might have been a better lead, but there’s no question or controversy there. Every TV fan or movie lover would sign a death pledge for a chance to buy Golden Globe® tickets. What’s more interesting, however, is the machinations behind the Golden Globes®. Like what divine body decides who gets nominated or who wins? These questions captivate fans and insiders year after year, and now we’ll explore what’s happening at the 2015 Golden Globes®. Exciting!

Let’s start with “The Judge.” If you haven’t seen this movie, don’t. Robert Downey Jr. is a lawyer who returns home to clear his father’s name. The critics didn’t love it, yet Robert Duvall managed to snag a best supporting actor nod. What’s up with that? Jake Gyllenhaal wrangled a best actor nod for “Nightcrawler,” but the film didn’t venture far in other categories. Sadly, “Gone Girl” is not gone. As if the Hollywood Foreign Press didn’t have any other choice, they gave “Gone Girl” four nominations, including best screenplay, best score, best director and best actress, although Ben Affleck’s character Nick takes over the film adaption.

Celebrities Throw the Best Parties

Oscar Party

Oscar Party

No, you do not have to be an Academy Award® nominee to live the high life. You don’t even have to be in the audience of the awards show itself to mingle and cavort with the movers, shakers and money makers after the show is over. You only need to buy tickets to the biggest bunch of good times since bananas, and coincidentally, we have tickets for the Oscar® after parties right here at VIP Concierge. Well, it’s not actually coincidental. It’s our business to procure and proffer these tickets to our legion of devoted awards show fans. They come out of the woodwork like a mouse for a cookie because they know that in the land of prestigious parties, few can hold sway with the Oscars®.

The 2015 show is going off on Sunday, February 22. The best parties are annual affairs, so they have an entire year to plan for the occasion. This blog would be several years long if we tried to mention them all, so we’ll just give you the lowdown on four of the most amazing shindigs in a weekend filled with parties.

Here Come the Golden Globes!

Golden Globe Awards

Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards® are just around the corner, getting ready to kick off the awards season. Naturally, they’ll be at the lovely and luminous Beverly Hilton (or The Bev, as locals call it) in the heart of the Hills of Beverly (as the Clampetts called it) on January 11. The Golden Globes® set the tone for the awards shows that follow, and they’re always exciting and unpredictable. Ask any celebrity, and they’ll tell you that the Golden Globes® are their favorite of the awards shows because they are less formal and the after parties are awesome.

However, the purported reason for the Golden Globes® is to give out awards for excellence in film and television, and while it’s hard to predict the outcome, here at VIP Concierge, we are fearless, and we’re going to try. I programmed some of the nominees into my computer, left it out in the rain and rubbed shea butter on it. Then, based on a highly scientific algorithm (which ones aren’t?), I have extrapolated our projected winners. For every one that’s right, there will probably be two wrong.

2014 CMA Tickets–12 Dozen of One and Six of the Other

CMA Country Music Awards

CMA Country Music Awards

Wow! What a year this has been for Miranda Lambert. The reigning Female Vocalist of the Year garnered nine, count ‘em, nine nominations spread across seven categories for the 48th annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards. The CMAs, which are also known as Country Music’s Biggest Night, are going to be held live on November 5 in the city that sings itself to sleep every night, beautiful, popular Nashville, which recently became a TV star in its own right. As if that many nominations wouldn’t bring any household tremendous joy, her husband, Blake Shelton, who’s a big-time country star his own self, is also currently the Male Vocalist of the Year, and he’s up for three awards at this year’s CMAs. This year’s accolades are the largest embarrassment of riches for Lambert since 2010.

To further beautifully complicate things, Lambert and her husband are going to be squaring off for the coveted 2014 Entertainer of the Year award. That’s sure to be worth bragging rights while the happily married couple is folding laundry as they watch “Nashville” on TV. Plus, they’re both going to be performing at the show, along with fellow multiple nominee Keith Urban, who is nominated in four categories this year, including that crowded Entertainer of the Year category. The only thing that those three have to worry about would be if someone like Luke Bryan or George Strait, the undisputed King of Country music was also nominated for EOY–which they both are! Yikes! How are the voters going to pick just one of them? That’s like having to choose between being rich and being wealthy. And Bryan’s going to perform that night too. Great googly moogly!

Don’t Be Tardy – Get Your American Music Awards Tickets!

American Music Awards

American Music Awards

It’s 2014, and there’s a brave new American Music Awards waiting for you and your friends to enjoy. The show will be coming our way on November 23, 2014. Now, we all have something to look forward to besides Thanksgiving turkey. Everyone will be grateful that pumpkin pie and plump waistlines come after the first major music award show of the season.

So why are the American Music Awards more exciting than stuffing and cranberry sauce? The answer is pretty obvious. If you get your American Music Awards tickets, you’ll be surrounded by a crowd of celebrities instead of your relatives and a pile of soon-to-be leftovers. Comparing the AMAs and Thanksgiving is really pointless. What Thanksgiving dinner is accompanied by performances from every musical artist that you can think of?

The Toronto International Film Festival Gambling on New Premieres Policy

Toronto International Film Festival

Toronto International Film Festival

Tickets to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) are always hard to come by, and this year will be no exception. TIFF announced most of the line-up recently, including world premieres by many of the entertainment world’s elite, such as Chris Rock, Noah Baumbach, Chris Evans and Jason Reitman.

The films that have been announced will be screened during the first four days of the festival, from Thursday to Sunday, September 4th through the 7th. Media attention is most intense at the Toronto International Film Festival during that period, and films scheduled for release in the upcoming award season can succeed or fail due to word of mouth, and, of course, the critics.

Notably absent from the list are two of this year’s most eagerly anticipated films by Brad Pitt and his stable mate Angelina Jolie. Both are period pieces set in World War II. Pitt’s film is called “Fury.” Jolie’s is named “Unbroken.”

NYC Fashion Week

NYC Fashion Week

Who needs a girls day out when you can have a whole week? That’s our philosophy, and it just makes plain, er, fashionable sense! After all, NYC Fashion Week is a whirlwind experience that rages on and on and on, starting on September 4, 2014, with the final shows closing on the 11th. One day isn’t nearly enough to experience all of the magic brought to life by Badgley Mischka, J. Mendel, Anna Sui and the various gods and goddesses of the business. That why VIP Concierge is offering special all-access tickets to New York Fashion Week events that are happening on each day of this extravaganza.

As you know, each September, designers and brands from across the world of fashion gather in the crisp fall weather of New York City to show off their forthcoming spring collections. This year, you can expect to see Hilfiger, BCBG, Calvin Klein, Tory Burch and all the names we love as well as some new labels that fellow fashionistas are just getting acquainted with. These are names like Katya Leonovich, an award-winning Russian/European designer who made her fashion week debut in 2011, Australian sensations Sass & Bide, the Bahrainian duo Noon by Noor and Katya Zol, a talented Mongolian designer whose exotic, tribal looks crafted from luxurious materials were first showcased at last year’s event.

MTV Video Music Awards

MTV Video Music Awards

OMG, the VMAs! #RedCarpet, #CrazyParty, #OutAllNight, #ShutTheFrontDoor. Like wow! MTV’s Video Music Award tickets are already on sale. It’s a huge deal–even if we’ve been waiting for this annual music/music video fest for a year. There’s a lot to be stoked about. Specifically, that the 2014 VMAs are returning to the fabulous Left Coast. The only place they belong, if you ask us. Brooklyn who? Seriously, that place has some bad juju memories. It’s 11 months later, and we’re still trying to block out that Miley Cyrus performance. PTSD anyone? Someone please tell that girl to keep her tongue to herself.

Anywho, the VMAs aren’t just returning to their SoCal home, they are happening in the storied, steeped in music, saturated in stardom halls of the historic, yet newly renovated, Forum in lovely Inglewood, CA. Wherever that is. Just kidding. If you’re not sure, the GPS definitely knows how to get there, and you can’t miss the long line of stars that will be floating over the red carpet and streaming in the front door on August 24, 2014. This is the only super Sunday we’ve heard of. The nominees are awesome, and the performers already include first-time nominee 5 Seconds of Summer. That’s 5SOS to you. Plus, the ultra-platinum, king of abs Usher will be hitting the stage as will the fabulous, chart-topping Ariana Grande. That’s grande news for any music fan and another reason to stock up on award show tickets.
